Team Monte Rosa

Sandra is the insightful lady behind the creation of Monte Rosa. Born in Holland in 1954 she started her career in Groningen as a teacher for children with impaired hearing. As she turned 30 Sandra was in search for a new and more adventurous life and moved to Portugal. She realized a dream by starting up a health food restaurant and juice bar in Lagos, that proved to be a great success. After having her daughter Arianne they moved into the countryside and commenced the Monte Rosa project in 1993. With the ethos that a good atmosphere and open communication is the key to a strong foundation of a business, Sandra created Monte Rosa to what it is now. She has a great interest in environmental matters and personal development. In Portugal she had training in hypnotherapy. With her commitment to these topics she has been a representative for the Findhorn Community in Scotland for 30 years. Mindfulness helps Sandra to avoid stress and to enjoy life fully.

She also gives a warm welcome to the English and Portuguese guests.

She is the spouse of Chico and mother of Ricardo, André and Marta. The children also visit Monte Rosa sometimes, especially at BBQ night.

Sandra´s daughter Arinanne was born in 1990 and has lived at Monte Rosa since she was 3 years old. She is currently based in Lisbon while she studies for a degree in communication and enjoys the student life. You can sometimes find Arianne helping as host at Monte Rosa during the summer. Arianne speaks Dutch, English and Portuguese fluently.

Her greatest hobby is surfing the waves of the Atlantic ocean and will happily organise surfing lessons or holiday packages for you in the Algarve with our affiliated surf school. If you want to see Lisbon she can help you to find a place to stay and she will welcome you to visit her friend Sergio's “Balibar” in the Bairro Alto, the oldest part of the centre of Lisbon.
